PEC represents the type of filmmaker whose work we want to showcase. This filmmaker has three important characteristics. The first of these is Passion, not only do they have a passion for the craft of filmmaking but also for the subject of their film. Next is Energy, as any independent filmmaker knows the hours are long, the money is tight, and most of the time it’s just you and some friends pulling an all-night shoot so you can get scene four knocked out before the extras for scene two arrive at seven a.m. It is this driving energy that separates those who want to make film from those who do. Thirdly, and most importantly, is Courage – to put yourself out there and let others see your work. These days everyone is a critic, and most people don’t understand that you didn’t have the Hollywood budget, access to a green screen, or perfect sound equipment.
Filmmakers with these three characteristics don’t take “no” for an answer, overcome all the things that go wrong during production, and move the industry forward by pioneering new and innovative techniques. These are the people who make PEC Flicks.
Do you grant fee waivers?
I’m sorry, but at this time we do not grant any wavers. If this policy changes, there will be an update in the news section on the front page.
I live overseas. How can I be sure USPS will deliver my package?
The only way to find this out is to contact your local postal service and find out who handles their packages once they arrive in the US. If they are turned over to USPS, you are ready to go. If not, you will need to find another service.
What if there are no feature-length films submitted for a category?
If this happens, then we will choose the best two shorts to move on in the competition. Both of these will be eligible for the Best Short Prize.
We are committed to showcasing features as well as shorts and encourage anyone with a feature-length film to submit it. We understand the challenges this type of project represents and would love to show off your accomplishment.
